Kicking USAID out of Armenia ruled out: Minister says
YEREVAN, September 29. / ARKA /. Armenian economy minister Tigran Davtyan said kicking USAID out of Armenia, as Russia did, is ruled out.

USAID, the largest foreign sponsor of Russian non-governmental organizations, is ending its operation in Russia from October 1 at the demand of Russian authorities. Moscow says USAID projects in Russia do not meet the stated goals of promoting the development of bilateral humanitarian cooperation. The foreign ministry said USAID sought through the distribution of grants to influence political processes in Russia.

"USAID is conducting in Armenia interesting programs which really contribute to the economic growth of the country, through the grants that do not put us in a financial dependence on anyone, " the Armenian minister said today after the signing of an agreement whereby the USAID will provide Armenia with additional funding in the amount of $14, 6 million to promote economic growth and reforms in the social sphere.

"If we had such plans as Russia we would not have signed today’s agreements,’ the Armenian minister said.
Karen Hilliard, head of USAID Yerevan Office, declined to comment on a relating question..-0-
