Lowest deflation among CIS countries in Jan-Aug 2014 recorded in Armenia

The lowest deflation in the Commonwealth of Independent States in Jan-Aug 2014 was recorded in Armenia, Gurgen Martirosyan, chief of the Armenian National Statistical Service’s division in charge of international comparison.

YEREVAN, October 6. /ARKA/. The lowest deflation in the Commonwealth of Independent States in Jan-Aug 2014 was recorded in Armenia, Gurgen Martirosyan, chief of the Armenian National Statistical Service’s division in charge of international comparison.
According to the National Statistical Service, consumer prices shed 1.2% in August 2014, compared with December 2013, but rose 0.8%, compared with August 2013.
“All CIS countries but Armenia accounted for inflation in Jan-Aug 2014 – the highest inflation rate was recorded in Ukraine 12.9%, in Belarus 12%, Russia 5.6% and Kazakhstan 5.4%,” Martirosyan said.
He also said that eight of the 27 European Union countries accounted for deflation and 19 for inflation in Jan-Aug 2014.
Martirosyan singled out Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Bulgaria for the highest deflation rates – 4.4%, 3.1%, 2%, 2% and 1.2% respectively.
In 15 of the 27 EU member countries deflation was recorded, in nine EU countries inflation and in three countries things remained unchanged.
The National Statistical Service says inflation in Armenia stood at 2.9% in Jan-Sept 2014, compared with the same period a year before.
In the 2014 government budget, inflation is projected at 4% (+ - 1.5%). --0------
