More than 1.8 billion drams of budget funds will be allocated in Armenia for the construction and equipping of schools and kindergartens
YEREVAN, November 6. /ARKA/. A reallocation of over 1.854 billion drams is set to occur from Armenia's 2025 state budget as part of the "Construction, Reconstruction, and Equipping of 300 Schools and 500 Kindergartens" initiative, as announced by Artur Martirosyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports.
During a government meeting on Thursday, Martirosyan indicated that these funds will be utilized for the construction of educational institutions and kindergarten facilities, the purchase of necessary equipment, as well as for staffing the School Rapid Response Fund and enhancing the capabilities of the Territorial Development Fund. Of this total, 500 million drams will be sourced from the government's Reserve Fund.
He clarified that the overall adjusted budget for this program stands at 125.4 billion drams.
"Approximately 1.76 billion drams will be designated for the construction and renovation of four kindergarten facilities, along with the provision of equipment for 16 kindergartens," stated the deputy minister.
As per the data referenced by Martirosyan, activities under the "300 Schools and 500 Kindergartens" program are currently in progress at 357 schools.
"The draft state budget for 2026 has raised the allocated amount for these initiatives to around 150 billion drams, reflecting a 51.2% increase compared to this year's funding," he added.
Martirosyan mentioned that construction has been finalized in 60 schools, is ongoing in 258, and work on 39 schools is set to commence shortly.
"An additional 50 schools are anticipated to be operational by the end of this year, increasing the total to 151 by September 1, 2026. By the conclusion of 2026, 47 school buildings are expected to be completed, resulting in a total of 308 schools by the end of that year," Martirosyan stated.
The deputy minister also reported that new projects for this extensive program are expected to be initiated by the end of this year to secure further funding. ($1 = 382.57 drams).-0-
