NSS: Armenia’s foreign trade in January and February falls by 1.7% to $614.1 million

Armenia’s foreign trade in January and February 2016 shrank by 1.7% when compared to the same period of 2015 to approximately $614.1 million, according to the latest numbers, released by the National Statistical Service (NSS).

YEREVAN, April 1. /ARKA/. Armenia’s foreign trade in January and February 2016 shrank by 1.7% when compared to the same period of 2015 to approximately $614.1 million, according to the latest numbers, released by the National Statistical Service (NSS).

The NSS said also exports surged by 38.3% to about $225.7 million, while imports fell by 9.2% to $388.5 million. As a result, the trade deficit decreased to about $162.8 million. According to preliminary data, the trade deficit in FOB prices amounted to about $103 million.

Armenia's trade turnover with CIS countries in the reporting period grew by 2.5% year-on-year to approximately $199.4 million (32.5% of the total);  trade with Russia rose by 7.8% to  $182.4 million; trade with Ukraine declined by 29.4% to $11.9 million and with Belarus plummeted by 33.2% to $2.3 million.

The trade with EU countries in January-February declined by 5.6% to about $138.8 million (22.6% of the total), while trade with other countries declined by 2.6% to $275.8 million (44.9 % of the total).

According to official data,  exports of mining industry products grew by 27.6% to about $69 million; exports of finished foodstuff increased by 46.6% to about $ 51 million and  exports of precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and articles grew by 55.3% to  about $37.5 million.

At the same time,  imports of mining industry products declined by 4.9% to about  $116.9 million, imports of machinery, equipment and mechanisms fell by 19.3% to  $43.3 million and imports of finished food products fell by 3% to  $35.6 million. ($ 1 - 480.79 drams).  -0-
