YEREVAN, June 9. /ARKA/. The state provides subsidies to all those air carriers that bring tourists to Armenia, RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan said in parliament on Monday during the discussion of the report on the implementation of the Armenian state budget for 2024.

Answering a question from an opposition MP about the amount of annual subsidies provided to Wizz Air, he said that this carrier is not provided with a special subsidy.

"We have an idea: we have set aside one day, but we want to make it two days - to increase the length of a tourist's stay (in the country - ed.). And based on this, we will calculate what kind of support we will provide," the minister said, explaining that the implementation of this idea will depend on the number of tourists brought to the country by the airline, the provision of advertising and its basing in Armenia.

In this regard, the head of the Ministry of Economy also stated that numerous airlines do not base their aircraft in Armenia.

"They are based in Cologne, Paris, Vienna, Moscow, they must be based in Yerevan, and at least the airline must operate a one-way flight from Gyumri. This is our condition and the reason that out of the numerous airlines operating flights to and from Armenia, only two or three will be able to actually take advantage of this (the support program - ed.)," Papoyan said.

In May 2025, Wizz Air Hungary CEO Roland Tischner, who is responsible for the company's activities in Armenia, said that from October 1, 2025, a Wizz Air base with two aircraft will begin operating in Armenia. -0-
