Pashinyan: growth of trade turnover with Iran is commensurate with Armenia's economic growth

YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. Relations between Armenia and Iran are proceeding in line with natural development, the growth of bilateral trade turnover is commensurate with our economic growth, which is quite high, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

“I believe that both the government of Armenia and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran are doing everything necessary for the development of cooperation. Both countries should work to make these relations more effective,” Pashinyan said in an interview with Iran's state television.

He was pleased to record progress both at the level of political dialog and economic interaction. “It is also encouraging to see more tourists visiting Armenia from Iran and tourists from Armenia visiting Iran,” Pashinyan noted.

According to him, the trade turnover between Armenia and Iran is growing at a natural pace. “Of course, there are also problems, obstacles, and if they were not there, the relations in the trade and economic sphere would be closer, but thanks to the interaction with the Iranian government it is possible to ensure quite good growth rates,” Pashinyan said.

He mentioned that Iranian companies have a large presence in Armenia, in particular, they participate in the construction of a new customs checkpoint between Armenia and Iran, a section of the Agarak-Kajaran road of the North-South interstate highway, etc.

According to Armstat, Armenia's foreign trade turnover with Iran in 2024 amounted to $737.4 million with a 6.5% growth compared to 2023. Exports to Iran amounted to $108.3 million (14.5% growth), imports from Iran as an exporting country to $572.5 million (3.6% growth), and imports as a producing country to $629.1 million (5.2% growth).

Iran wants to increase trade turnover with Armenia to $1 billion already this year. Iran also plans to reach $3 bln.in the nearest future.-0-
