Pashinyan: Washington declaration will open the way to the Black Sea for Iran and establish rail communication with Russia

YEREVAN, August 14. /ARКА/. In an interview with Fox News, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the unprecedented opportunities that are opening up after Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States signed the declaration.

“I think that the declaration contains quite tangible benefits for both Iran and Russia. After all, when they are implemented, for example, Iran will have the opportunity to access the Black Sea by rail from the Persian Gulf, and Russia and Iran will have the opportunity to establish rail communication with each other,” Pashinyan said.

He noted that the implementation of the agreement will provide economic benefits not only for the participating countries.

“If we focus on the economic side of this agreement, then very important and tangible benefits will be received not only by Armenia, Azerbaijan, the United States, but also by Turkey, Russia and Iran. In fact, such a connection would be unprecedented, since there is currently no railway connection between Iran and Russia in the South Caucasus,” Pashinyan said.

He also noted the importance of the new agreement in terms of international stability and security.

“I believe that this is a very important agreement that can bring significant benefits to all countries, and, by the way, to the entire international community, including for international stability and security,” Pashinyan said.

He recalled the “Crossroads of Peace” project, expressing hope that this agreement will become “a crossroads of cooperation and peace in the region.”

“We do not want to provoke disagreements, tensions. Our goal is to ensure stability, peace, sustainable development, economic and political cooperation. And I think that the declaration is a very important and convenient platform for this.”

The seven-point declaration signed following the trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 8 in Washington includes the initialing of the “Agreement on Peace and Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, the joint application to the OSCE on the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group mechanisms, the unblocking of regional communications within the framework of the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction of countries and on the basis of reciprocity, as well as the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project.-0-
