YEREVAN, June 7. /ARKA/. In an interview with Russian RIA Novosti new agency Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he and president Putin discussed the price of natural gas that Russia ships to Armenia.
"This is, indeed, a very important issue for our relations; because I think that we are discussing this issue also within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. I think that we need to understand all the nuances of this issue. I told president Putin that we have a very good economic dynamics, "said Pashinyan, citing 7.1% economic growth in the first quarter of 2019.
"This shows that we have very good chances of making an economic breakthrough. We call this an economic revolution. And it is very important that we agree on such a gas price that does not break our economic pace. And I hope that we will find a common language, because we have strategic relations, and I think that we need to solve the strategic issue of gas too,” Pashinyan stressed.
On December 31, 2018 Russia's Gazprom raised the price of natural gas it ships to Armenia across Georgia from $150 per one thousand cubic meters to $165. In 2018, Gazprom supplied 1.94 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia.
Although the Russian natural gas is delivered to Armenia by Gazprom at a $165 per one thousand cubic meters, Gazprom’s Armenian subsidiary - Gazprom Armenia - sells it to the bulk of Armenian households at almost $300. Gazprom Armenia also deals with the storage, distribution and sale of gas.
Pashinyan said also that he and Putin discussed the issue of arms supplies. “We cooperate well in the military-technical sphere and, of course, we have some agreements. And I think our relations in this industry are developing systematically,” said Pashinyan.
Asked whether he and Putin discussed the issue of supplying new Iskander ballistic missile system to Armenia Pashinyan said that Armenia has enough of them. "We have enough Iskanders. But we hope to get something else," said Pashinyan. -0-
