YEREVAN, April 12. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke yesterday to members of the Armenian community of Strasbourg, France, highlighting the successes the country has achieved since the velvet revolution more than 10 months ago.

"Revolutions are followed as a rule by economic recession. However, Armenia’s economy saw a growth after the revolution. During these 10 months, 51 thousand jobs were created, which make about 10% of the entire labor market," he said.

At the same time, the prime minister stressed that it is difficult to say how many new jobs were in reality created and how many were simply brought to net.

“But even if all the new jobs were those that were brought to net, it is too unprecedented. We have been arguing about the need to combat the “shadow economy” for 20, 25 or 30 years.  In the first quarter tax authorities collected by 11 billion drams more than projected and in all likelihood, this amount will surge to 40 billion drams by the end of the year," he said.

According to Pashinyan, the increase in budget revenues will allow the government to raise by 10% the salaries of the military from July 1 and teachers from September 1.

Pashinyan said also that from January 1, the salary of about 15 thousand employees of medical institutions was raised. He also recalled that the economic activity in January 2019 was 5. 6%, and in February - 7%.

As Pashinyan noted, the increase in salaries and pensions indicates significant economic success of the government.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, in January and February, the economic activity grew by 6.5% from the year before. ($ 1 - AMD 485.01). -0-
