‘Private Party’: Visa holds an event in Yerevan, discrediting the media

YEREVAN, 22 November. /ARKA/. Visa recently distributed a press release saying that Visa Cashless Forum 2024 will be held for the first time in Yerevan on 22 November. However, the press release did not specify the time and the venue of the forum.

On the same day, ARKA news agency, which covers mainly economic, financial and banking news, tried to find out the time and place of the event to obtain accreditation and cover the event, which is important for Armenia's financial sector.

After unsuccessful attempts to contact Visa's press service representative in Georgia Mariam Gvaradze, whose contact details were specified in the press release, by phone, Telegram and e-mail, the news agency contacted Anna Bubushyan, who, as it turned out, represents Visa's interests in Armenia.

According to her, only Civilnet, Mediamax and Public Television of Armenia will be allowed to cover the event.

ARKA news agency expressed interest in participating in the event too. However, we were told that the script of the event had already been approved and nothing could be changed.

Reasonable questions arise, in particular, if the event was closed for the press, why was it not mentioned in the press release, as well as on what principle were the above-mentioned media outlets selected for access to the newsmakers of the forum?

ARKA news agency is waiting for official comments on this issue from Visa.
