Regional conference on digitization of customs procedures kicks off in Yerevan

Armenia is moving firmly to digitization of customs procedures and paperless trade, Armenian Vice Premier Tigran Avinyan said Monday in Yerevan at the ceremony of opening of the international conference "Digital Solutions for Cross-Border Cooperation and Trade Facilitation”. "The data digitalization process is able not only to spur development of trade, but also to enhance the effectiveness of management of border risks," he said.

YEREVAN, November 18. /ARKA/. Armenia is moving firmly to digitization of customs procedures and paperless trade, Armenian Vice Premier Tigran Avinyan said Monday in Yerevan at the ceremony of opening of the international conference "Digital Solutions for Cross-Border Cooperation and Trade Facilitation”. "The data digitalization process is able not only to spur development of trade, but also to enhance the effectiveness of management of border risks," he said.

The vice-premier stressed that digitization of trade processes and exchange of digitized data among customs services is necessary nowadays. He said that significant progress is seen in at Armenia's State Revenue in digitization of customs and tax procedures, particularly in provision of permissions, reports and the exchange of digitized information. "The committee will not be satisfied with what it has achieved, but it is already implementing ambitions projects on mechanization of education, big data analyses and introduction of the artificial intellect," he said. "All these actions are aimed at digitization of border trade and are another step toward paperless trade."

Avinyan said that close relations among governing agencies, the private sector and international and regional organizations are needed for further development of digitization of trade processes. He stressed the importance of the signing of two cooperation memoranda with Georgia and Iran. "The signing of these memoranda shows that cooperation in this area may bring to positive changes, contribute to state development of and strengthen ties."

The Armenian State Revenue Committee, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Centre for Migration Policy Development and the European Union are holding “Digital Solutions for Cross-Border Cooperation and Trade Facilitation” international conference in Yerevan on November 18 and 19.

The event is being held as part of an EU-funded program to support migration and border control. -0--
