YEREVAN, September 6. /ARKA/. Russia hasn’t changed the price for its natural gas for Armenia Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan told journalists on Thursday.
According to him, Armenia buys 1000 cubic meters of gas from Gazprom for $180.
During a meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on August 8 Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan said they reached a “mutual understanding” on the new price of Russian gas for Armenia. He said it should mirror “the real market price of gas” and at the same time help to “preserve the effectiveness of Armenia’s economy.”
Media reports in Armenia in early July said Russia may raise the price of gas supplied to Armenia across Georgia to $280 per one thousand cubic meters from this October 1 and further to $320 from next January.
Armenia currently pays $180 per one thousand cubic meters. Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission said earlier this month it did not receive application from Russian-controlled national gas distributor ArmRosgazprom requesting permission to raise the gas price.
ArmRosgazprom was created in December 1997. Currently, Russian Gazporm owns more than 80% of it, the rest belongs to Armenian government. -0-
