Russia provides Armenia with $1 million for development of textile industry

Russia has provided Armenia through United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with $1 million for development of its textile industry, Lamin Dhaoui, a senior UNIDO official, said today in Yerevan after a relating agreement was signed by representatives of Russia, UNIDO and the Armenian ministry of economy.

YEREVAN, September 23. / ARKA /. Russia has provided Armenia through United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with $1 million for development of its textile industry, Lamin Dhaoui, a senior UNIDO official, said today in Yerevan after a relating agreement was signed by representatives of Russia, UNIDO and the Armenian ministry of economy.

He said the aim is to help local textile and garment companies to upgrade their equipment and lien of products to seek new export markets. 

He said a group of Italian fashion designers has arrived in Armenia to consult and train local specialists. In addition, over 10 local textile and garment companies have been selected to get support as part of the project.

In turn, Russian chargé d'affaires in Armenia, Andrei Ivanov, said that Russia attaches great importance to the strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation in the CIS, adding also that this project will contribute to the development of the Eurasian integration. 

The project was initiated by the Armenian government with the support of Russia and UNIDO and the Armenian Development Agency that acts as its general partner. -0-
