YEREVAN, October 29. /ARKA/. The Russian natural gas price for Armenia should not break the country's economy, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with Kommersant. In his words, a normal conversation over the matter is under way now, and this is a talk between strategic allies, and it will produce particular results.
"I am sure, we have a very good dynamics in our Armenian economy," he said. "This issue is important to us not only in terms of the gas price, but this is the matter of economic development. I think it is important to our strategic ally Russia to set a price that will not break economic development dynamics in the Republic of Armenia."
Nikol Pashinyan said that calculations are being carried out now, and the decision will be allied, and nothing different can happen. He remembered that domestic price for natural gas has not been changed for consumers over the last year, though the wholesale price has changed.
"This is not a matter of great significance in terms of consumers inside Armenia," the Armenian premier said. "It is important to us to know that everything is okay with Gazprom Armenia. And this is, I think, an economic issue as well. We should work out the formulas making Gazprom Armenia's activity effective and the gas price effective."
Nikol Pashinyan stressed that the price should be beneficial to the Armenian economy not to break its growth. He thinks not only Armenia, but also Russia should be interested in that, "since we are speaking about the Eurasian Economic Union and we have common economic space. "When economic problems emerge in Russia, it troubles us, and I think our Russian colleagues - the president and the prime minister - have the same perception. We will solve this problem," the Armenian premier said in his interview.
According to the Armenia's media sources, the Russian authorities intend to increase the natural gas price for Armenia by 30%, but everything will depend on negotiations between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On January 1, 2019, the price of Russian gas for Armenia increased from $ 150 to $ 165 per thousand cubic meters. The natural gas price for consumers inside Armenia, however, kept unchanged at the account of Gazprom Armenia.
Gazprom Armenia, a subsidiary of Russia's Gazprom Holding, imports Russian natural gas and distributes it in Armenia. The company is also responsible for gas storage in the country's territory and takes care of gas supply infrastructures. -0---
