Russian MP: Russia remains major investor in Armenian economy

The Russian Federation remains the largest investor in Armenia and does not intend to give the palm to anyone, said Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy head of a Russian parliament committee on CIS, Eurasian Integration issues and relations with compatriots.
YEREVAN, March 26. /ARKA/. The Russian Federation remains the largest investor in Armenia and does not intend to give the palm to anyone, said Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy head of a Russian parliament committee on CIS, Eurasian Integration issues and relations with compatriots.
In his words, the trade turnover between Armenia and Russia grew by 30% in 2017 with Armenian exports to the Russian Federation growing by 44%. Zatulin was speaking in Yerevan during a joint session of an Armenian parliament committee on foreign affairs and the Russian parliament committee on CIS, Eurasian Integration issues and relations with compatriots.
According to official data, Armenia's exports to Russia in 2017 increased by $167 million, or 44.6%, to $541.5 million and imports from Russia to Armenia totaled $1.171.3 billion, an increase of 19.1% from the previous year. As a result, Armenia's trade turnover with Russia totaled $1.712.9 billion (an increase of 26.1%). Russia accounted for 26% of Armenia’s foreign trade.
"Of course, relations with Armenia are a priority for Russian parliamentarians. In the last two years the Russia parliament ratified a string of important bilateral agreements designed to give a new push to the development of the allied relations between the two countries, including the agreements on the creation of a joint grouping of forces and the joint air defense system in the Caucasus region," said Zatulin. -0
