Salaries of some 238,000 Armenian public servants will increase in 2014 due to introduction of a new pay scale, minister-head of government administration Vache Gabrielyan said.

YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. Salaries of some 238,000 Armenian public servants will increase in 2014 due to introduction of a new pay scale, minister-head of government administration Vache Gabrielyan said.
Only a thousand people out of these public servants are high-ranking officials, he said. Hence, it is incorrect to say the government initiated the change to increase salaries of high-ranking officials, he added.
In particular, salary fund of the ministry of emergencies staff will increase by 37%, funds appropriated for salaries to physicians of out-patient clinics will increase by more than 100%, he said.
On November 11 Armenian parliament passed, in its first reading, amendments to the law about salaries to officials and a number of related laws.
Under the 2014 draft government budget the basis salary is about 66,000 drams (about $163).
The bill envisages increasing salaries of parliament deputies, high officials of national security agencies, Armed Forces, the police, the ministry of emergencies, judicial bodies, prosecutor’s offices, diplomats, state cadastre, tax and customs bodies, and etc.
The new pay calculation system will be introduced as from January 1 2014 and will require an additional of 50 billion drams from the budget.
These measures are taken under the 2013-17 government program that anticipates doubling minimum pay by 2017 taking into account macroeconomic indicators and budget performance level.
In particular, under the program, minimum wages is to reach 50,000 drams in 2014, 55,000 drams in 2015, 62,500 drams in 2016 and 70,000 drams in 2017. ($1=405.39drams). --0—
