Sargsyan: Armenian dram more stable than other EEU countries’ national currencies

The Armenian dram has devaluated over one year less than the currencies of other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union space.

YEREVAN, February 15. /ARKA/. The Armenian dram has devaluated over one year less than the currencies of other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union space.
“The dram went 1.8% down against the US dollar over a period between late December 2014 and late December 2015,” Serzh Sargsyan, the Armenian president, said Friday at his meeting with representatives of legislative and executive institutions.
He said that an average salary in the country grew 7.8% to AMD 184,441 with 8.2% salary increase in the public sector and 7% in the private sector.
“Although we have managed to shield the financial market from shocks, it is necessary to in the future to stay alert in the future to resist adverse impacts coming from the outside,” he said.
Sargsyan expressed confidence that the country’s central bank possesses necessary instruments for solving problems and reacting to outside risks.
In 2015, despite some volatility at Armenia’s forex market, the Armenian dram was more stable than national currencies of other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. --0----
