Seven percent growth is 'shameful,' economist says
YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. The 7% economic growth is 'shameful' and will not contribute to raising the living standards of Armenian citizens, Tatul Manaseryan, head of Alternative research center,  said at a news conference on Tuesday.

“There is economic growth, but it is very weak, and it should be at least double-digit,” the expert said. He said  in order to talk about inclusive economic growth, it is necessary to take into account a number of indicators, in particular, the poverty level. He said  reduction of poverty  will lead to an improvement in the quality of life and the solution of social problems. He also noted that it is not the government that should speak about inclusive growth, but the people who  should feel it.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that “this year we are likely to see economic growth somewhere near us 7%, which is a high indicator not only for the Eurasian Economic Union member countries but also for European countries.”

Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan stated earlier in an interview with ARKA news agency that the economic growth will reach 7% in 2019, instead of the planned 4.9%. The Central Bank's forecast is  6.6%.

The  IMF has revised upward its forecast from 4.6% to 6%, saying it would drop to 4.8% in 2020. The government's projection of inflation for 2019 is 2.7%. --0—
