U.S. invests $3.3B in Armenia for reforms, economy, and aid

The United States has invested approximately $3.3 billion in Armenia to support democratic reforms, economic growth and resilience, and humanitarian aid, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Armenia following the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the two countries in Washington on January 14.

YEREVAN, January 15. /ARKA/. The United States has invested approximately $3.3 billion in Armenia to support democratic reforms, economic growth and resilience, and humanitarian aid, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Armenia following the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the two countries in Washington on January 14.

"Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced the launch of the US-Armenia Strategic Partnership Commission on January 14, marking a new milestone in our bilateral relations. Strong partners create strong regional partners, and our cooperation reflects our shared commitment to a more resilient, peaceful, secure, and independent South Caucasus," the statement read.

Armenia-US Relations in Figures

According to the latest data from the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, the country’s foreign trade turnover with the United States for the first 11 months of 2024 totaled $3.811 billion, a decrease of 39.2%. Exports from Armenia to the US increased by 24.1%, reaching $54.2 million during the reporting period. The United States remains among the top five countries in terms of import volumes, with $324.3 million worth of goods imported from the US (down 59.7%) and $326.9 million in products produced by the US (down 43.9%).

According to the Central Bank of Armenia, the United States traditionally ranks second after Russia in terms of cross-border money transfers to individuals in Armenia, received via the country's banking system. For January-November 2024, this figure was $623.7 million, compared to $596.8 million during the same period in 2023.

Additionally, according to the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, for the first nine months of 2024, the total volume of American investments in Armenia amounted to 11.6 billion drams, with 8.3 billion drams in direct investments. These figures were 2.7 billion drams and 6.6 billion drams, respectively, for the same period in 2023.
