Vice PM: Zvartnots Airport needs another terminal
YEREVAN, 22 May. /ARKA/. A new terminal has to be constructed at the Yerevan Zvartnots Airport, although there are currently difficulties with the concession owner, Armenia’s Vice Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said in the Parliament on Wednesday.
“The current terminal is simply not enough for the traffic that we have there. There is room for optimization, but it won’t solve the problem; a new terminal has to be constructed,” Grigoryan said. The construction of a new terminal will require an investment of roughly €450 million, he added.
Grigoryan also admitted that there are “difficulties” in the negotiations on the matter. “We cannot go ahead with the current concession contract as it has parameters that are not acceptable in the current reality we have in Armenia,” Grigoryan said.
The Vice Prime Minister also revealed that the concept project for the new terminal has already been completed, although other details will be subject to further negotiation. “In about a month, indicative conditions regarding investment and expansion of concession relations will be summarized,” Grigoryan concluded.
The concession owner of the Zvartnots Airport is Armenia International Airports CJSC, owned by Eduardo Ernekian, an Argentinian national. It was signed in 2001 and has a term of 30 years.
