World Bank denies NGO allegations

A spokesman for World Bank Yerevan Office Vigen Sarkisian has denied today allegations by a Civil Voice non-governmental organization’s activist Silva Adamyan that Armenia’s authorities have given the country’s largest lake of Sevan to World Bank as collateral calling these allegations ‘not serious.’

YEREVAN, June 22. / ARKA /. A spokesman for World Bank Yerevan Office Vigen Sarkisian has denied today allegations by a Civil Voice non-governmental organization’s activist Silva Adamyan that Armenia’s authorities have given the country’s largest lake of Sevan to World Bank as collateral calling these allegations ‘not serious.’
Adamyan ‘reported ‘about the unusual "pledge" on Monday when talking to journalists. She said she had been given this information ‘verbally’ meaning she has no documentary evidence to prove her allegation, saying only "the source is trustworthy."
Lake Sevan is one of the largest alpine lakes in Europe and Asia, located in the heart of the Armenian plateau at an altitude of 1,914 meters and is the largest source of fresh water in Armenia and the the Caucasus.-0-
