Yerevan Mayor Names Long-Term and Short-Term Solutions to Nubarashen Landfill Problem
YEREVAN, October 23. /ARKA/. Yerevan City Hall is using three different approaches to address the Nubarashen landfill problem, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced today.
Early in the morning of October 9, a fire broke out at the Nubarashen landfill. Tigran Avinyan stated that the fire was not an accident. A criminal case has been opened.
"First, we are announcing a two-stage tender for the construction of a waste processing plant. Second, together with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, as well as our international financial partners, we strive to achieve the same goal," Avinyan said at a press conference on Thursday.
Third, he noted the importance of implementing a new waste pre-treatment program in Nubarashen.
He also provided an update on the situation following the recent fire in Nubarashen. "The mayor's office terminated the landfill's management contract with a private company and took control of it. A comprehensive video surveillance system is being installed at the landfill to restrict access by various vehicles. From now on, monitoring in this area will be significantly strengthened," Avinyan stated.-0-
