ARMAVIR, September 7. / ARKA /. Igor Arakelyam, the Chief operating officer of the Yerevan Brandy Company (YBC), told reporters today in Armavir region that the French-owned company will buy 35,000 tons of grapes this year and will pay 150 drams per one kg of grape grown in the Ararat valley and 140 drams for grape grown in Tavush region, where  content of sugar in grape is lower.

Arakelyan said the company will do everything possible to purchase the entire crop grown in Tavush. Arakelyan said also that the company continues to provide winegrowers with interest-free installments of fertilizers, having earmarked 245 million drams to this end for this year.

Speaking about the export of finished products, Arakelyan said no serious changes are expected this year and the bulk of products- about 70% - is sold to Russia, the main importer of Armenian brandy.
He said the company is seriously concerned about the depreciation of the Russian ruble; however, it tries to keep the price unchanged to ensure as large sales as possible.

In turn, agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan noted that other processing companies will also start purchase of grapes this week. The purchase started today in Armavir region, tomorrow it will start in the Ararat region and in several days it will start in Tavush.

According to the minister, this year's grape harvest is larger than in 2014, when  a total of 261,000 tons of grapes were grown of which 184,000 tons were bought by processing companies. This year's output is expected to reach 295,000 metric tons, he said.

In a last week statement the Yerevan Brandy Company said it plans to commission a new chamber at the distillation shop, already equipped with three sets of distillers. Their number is expected to increase to 8 soon. The devices were manufactured by the French Chalvignac Group, which has 100 years of experience in this area. The total investment for this project amounted to 1.635 billion drams. Work on the new distillation shop will begin on November 1.

At the moment, the new devices are not intended to replace, but to supplement the existing distillation capacity, the company said.

Yerevan Brandy Company, the exclusive producer of ARARAT Brandies is the direct successor of Armenian brandy-making traditions, established in 1887.  It is the biggest taxpayer of the field and the biggest grape buyer. In 1999 Yerevan Brandy Company joined the Pernod Ricard Group, the world co-leader of the Wine & Spirits industry, which unites such brands as Chivas, Absolut, Martell, Jameson and others.  ($1-485.43 drams). -0--
