Yerevan, S. Petersburg sign a five-year cooperation agreement
YEREVAN, April 30. /ARKA/. The Yerevan municipality and the government of Saint Petersburg signed an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation for 2015-2020 on Thursday, Novosti-Armenia reported.

The document was signed by Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan and Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko.

The five-year program envisages exchange of information and experience between the cities in various fields, particularly in trade, economy, architecture, urban planning, education, culture, tourism, humanitarian field, and etc.

The agreement is not a mere declaration, but is a document containing concrete plans and directions, the governor of Saint Petersburg said.

In 1710 some fifty Armenian merchants arrived in Saint Petersburg invited by the Russian tsar Peter the Great, Poltavchenko said. Today more than 25,000 ethnic Armenians live and work in St Petersburg and have their contribution to the municipal economy, education, culture and healthcare, he said.

Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan, in turn, said they discussed with Poltavchenko the previous cooperation agreement for 2011-2014 and assessed the results as satisfactory.

Margaryan also expressed hopes the 2015-2020 cooperation between the cities will intensify during 2015-2020 and the results will be tangible to the population of both Yerevan and St. Petersburg.

The new agreement is the third document signed between the municipality of Yerevan and the government of St. Petersburg and has broader coverage than the previous agreements. –0--
