Armenia’s ministry of agriculture issued a fire warning today amid record heat saying a sharp increase in air temperature across the country has upped the risk of fires in forests and adjacent areas.
YEREVAN, June 27. /ARKA/. Armenia’s ministry of agriculture issued a fire warning today amid record heat saying a sharp increase in air temperature across the country has upped the risk of fires in forests and adjacent areas.
"Since several regions of Armenia - Armavir, Ararat and Tavush - have begun grain crops harvesting, the ministry of agriculture reminds all that according to the law" On atmospheric air protection "it is prohibited to burn stubble, plant waste and dry grass as well as vegetation in pastures, hayfields, forests and specially protected areas," the ministry said in a press release.
It said to prevent fires on agricultural land, it is forbidden to build a fire, throw burning matches or cigarette butts, and leave behind pieces of cloth impregnated with oils, gasoline or other flammable liquids.
Making a fire is allowed only in specially designated places. The ministry of agriculture also recalled that in accordance with the current legislation, persons who cause damage to forest areas both intentionally or unintentionally are liable to criminal and material proceedings. In case of fires in forest areas, citizens should immediately call 911. -0-
