One of passengers injured in road accident near Gyumri dies

YEREVAN, August 25. /ARKA/. Doctors have failed to save the life of a young man, who was heavily injured in a collision of a passenger minibus and a truck in Armenia on August 14 that killed 11 people and injured another nine, the Health Ministry reported.

The ministry said one of the injured persons was being treated in the intensive care unit. His condition is stable and serious, but there is a noticeable improvement. The health condition of three other injured passengers, who are being treated in different medical centers is assessed as stable or moderately serious.

According to Armenian Rescue Service, a Volkswagen van carrying passengers collided with a ZIL truck on the section near the village of Lanjik in Shirak province.  The victims were returning from Turkey where they had visited historical Armenian sites.

Inspection of the accident site showed that at the moment of the head-on collision the Volkswagen was in its own lane heading towards Yerevan, while the ZIL truck was in the oncoming lane moving towards Gyumri.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia initiated criminal proceedings under a Criminal Code article. -0-
