The Armenian police said the man who was shot and killed in downtown Yerevan today afternoon was a resident of the northern Armenian town of Alaverdi.

YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA/. The Armenian police said the man who was shot and killed in downtown Yerevan today afternoon was a resident of the northern Armenian town of Alaverdi.

The man, born in 1974, was shot and killed in front of Tufenkian hotel near the Vernissage open-air market.  According to some eyewitnesses, the shots were made from a Kalashnikov gun  killing one and wounding another.

Edgar Janoyan, a spokesman for police, said the circumstances of the crime are being clarified. The wounded person was rushed to hospital. The site of the crime is cordoned off. Top police officers, including deputy police chief Hunan Poghosyan, are there.-0-
