YEREVAN, June 13. /ARKA/. The current Armenian Parliament cannot be considered a mouthpiece of the public will in the country, MP Secretary of the parliament group of Heritage opposition party Stepan Safarian told a press conference.
“The National Assembly cannot express the opinion of all the society which by 25-30% is not represented in the parliament. This kind of parliament cannot be considered a mouthpiece of the public will,” he said.
Despite the positive evaluation of local and international experts, the current National Assembly cannot be the parliament “the society has waited for since long ago”, Safarian said.
Commenting on the statements of the pro-governmental forces on the necessity of forming a constructive opposition Safarian pointed out that it is extremely difficult to draw a distinction between constructive and destructive opposition. According to him, if such a distinction is drawn then one should differentiate also constructive authorities from destructive authorities.
“If we consider that constructive opposition is ready for making joint efforts with the authorities, then, naturally, the authorities also have constructive attitude toward the initiatives and approaches of the opposition, should not misuse the parliamentary majority and should adopt decisions in taking into account the opinions of the parliamentary minority,” Safarian said adding that the previous Armenian parliaments failed to do it.
The parliamentary election was held in Armenia on May 12. As a result, five parties formed the new Armenian parliament – Republican Party of Armenia, Prospering Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsiutiun, as well as Orinats Erkir and Heritage opposition parties. N.V. –0--
