Voters must decide on elections for Yerevan Elders’ council themselves – Prosperous Armenia party
YEREVAN, March 11. /ARKA/. The voters will decide themselves on which party to vote for at the elections for Yerevan Elders’ Council, said Spokesman of Prosperous Armenia Party Leader Khachik Galstyan.
“I assure you this and will try to help our citizens be sure that the elections will be free and fair and each political power will be able to win the sympathy of the voters and introduce its view,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
Talking about the competition, Galstyan noted all political parties of the country are rivals of the Prosperous Armenia Party.
“We do not overestimate or underestimate anybody. These elections are an arena for healthy political competition for our party, we respect everybody and are ready to compete with all the parties that will participate to the elections of the Elders’ Council,” he stressed.
Galstyan excluded possibility of PAP participation to the elections in a team with other parties. He stated there is no information on intention of State of Law Party or Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun Party to support Prosperous Armenia Party in the elections.
“I think these parties can participate in the elections separately,” said Galstyan.
The elections for Yerevan Elders’ Council will take place on May 31. According to the RA Law “On local governments of Yerevan” the council will have 65 members and be formed by proportional system. The position of Mayor of Yerevan becomes elective and is elected by the Council of Elders from its members.
If a party wins more than 50% of the votes in municipal elections, its first candidate becomes the Yerevan Mayor.
Prosperous Armenia Party is in governing coalition with the Republican Party of Armenia, Dashnaktsutyun Party and State of Law Party. RA Minister of Health Harutyun Kushkyan is the first on the proportional list of the Prosperous Armenia Party.
Gagik Beglaryan is currently the Mayor of Yerevan. He was appointed on March 4 on the RA President’s decree. He is the first on the list of the Republican Party of Armenia for elections for the Council of Elders. G. S. --0--
