Lavrov: Russia steadfast in supporting peace, stability and security in South Caucasus

Russia is always seeking peace, stability and security for South Caucasus, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his address to attendees of a scientific and practice conference launched Friday in Yerevan.

YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. Russia is always seeking peace, stability and security for South Caucasus, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his address to attendees of a scientific and practice conference launched Friday in Yerevan.

The conference focused on security in South Caucasus has been organized by Russian RIA Novosti News Agency jointly with Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University.

“Under various factors, including geopolitical factors, Caucasian region has turned into one of so-called nerve knots of international policy”, Lavrov said in his address.

He thinks these complicated processes need comprehensive public acknowledgement with participation of representatives of scientific and civil institutions.

“I’m convinced that Caucasian nations living together long centuries will be able to overcome discord and develop the region into peaceful and prosperous area”, Lavrov said.

He expressed hope that the conference will contribute to positive processes in the region.

“Russia remains steadfast in supporting every effort to establish peace, stability and security in the South-Caucasian region and to create atmosphere of trust here”, Lavrov said.

This is the fourth conference organized by RIA Novosti in cooperation with Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian experts and Russian economists, political analysts, heads of leading universities, press and e-media outlets.

The conference is to be held as part of a series of events aimed at advancing ideas of information cooperation of RIA Novosti News Agency with South-Caucasian countries. -0---
