Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said his meetings with Chinese officials during his visit to China will give a new push to development of Chinese-Armenian relations.
SHANGHAI, September 22, /ARKA /. Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said his meetings with Chinese officials during his visit to China will give a new push to development of Chinese-Armenian relations. Sarkisian made the remarks during a news conference in Shanghai, which he visited to take part in a ceremony marking Armenia’s Day at Shanghai Expo-2010, coinciding with Armenia’s Independence Day, marked September 21.

’I think the arrangements we have reached here will translate into concrete projects,’ he said. He then described the meetings, he had in China, including a meeting with first deputy prime minister Li Keqiang.as ‘very interesting and saturated.’

Tigran Sarkisian recalled that a joint Armenian-Chinese synthetic rubber plant had been commissioned in May during Armenian president Serzh Sarkisian’s visit to China. “It is a large enterprise built by Armenian technology and Mr. Li Keqiang and I have discussed new projects that Armenia and China could implement jointly,’ he said.

The rubber producing plant is in the city of Datong of China’s north-eastern Shanxi province. Armenia holds a 40-percent stake in Shanxi-Nairit, while the rest belongs to China. Nine years ago the Armenian government approved the project with China. The joint plant is one of Armenia’s largest partnership projects. Whereas China has spent $100 million on the construction of the plant, Armenia has made a contribution only with intellectual resources and certain equipment of the third production line at the Nairit chemical plant in Yerevan.

Speaking about his meeting with a deputy foreign minister of China, Tigran Sarkisian said it was stated once again that China and Armenia have y a similar approach to major international issues and problems. Sarkisian commended Chian for its ‘balanced’ position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that is very important for ensuring stability in the South Caucasus and seeking a peaceful settlement to the conflict. -0-
