Armenia’s foreign affairs minister Edward Nalbandian slammed Azerbaijan for its rejection of a proposal not to use force in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
YEREVAN, September 22, /ARKA/. Armenia’s foreign affairs minister Edward Nalbandian slammed Azerbaijan for its rejection of a proposal not to use force in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Speaking at the UN session dedicated to Millennium Challenges Goals, he said Azerbaijan’s policies are in violation of UN basic principles.

In a statement Armenian foreign ministry quoted Nalbandian as saying that ‘all of us are witnessing Azerbaijan’s belligerent behavior, its increasing military spending, war rhetoric and provocations threatening security and stability of the region.’

Nalbandian said since security and development are closely intertwined, the governments have committed not to spare efforts to fend off peoples from horrors of war both inside countries and between states.

‘In this connection military build-up continues to threaten not only peace and security but also economic and social progress,’ he was quoted as saying.

‘As we are speaking about progress in achieving Millennium Development Goals and sharing our concern about unrealized goals, there are peoples which are left beyond the international community’s attention.,’ he said.

He said the people of Nagorno-Karabakh are making every effort to create favorable conditions for life and ensuring defense of human rights on their historical land without the support of the international community.’

During his visit to New York to attend the UN session, Nalbandian is scheduled to meet with UN leadership, his counterparts and the OSCE Minsk Group cochairmen. On September 25 he is slated to take the UN General Assembly’s rostrum to deliver a speech. The following day he will travel to Boston to meet with members of the Armenian community. He is also scheduled to talk at Fletcher Law and Diplomatic School of Taft University. -0-
