Armenia to reform its border security infrastructure

In 2011 Armenia will implement set of reforms along the entire length of its state borders, National Security Council Secretary Artur Bagdasarian said at a press conference Wednesday.
YEREVAN, January 12. / ARKA /. In 2011 Armenia will implement set of reforms along the entire length of its state borders, National Security Council Secretary Artur Bagdasarian said at a press conference Wednesday, adding that the goal is to build a border infrastructure, upgrade border crossings in line with international standards, which will facilitate the process of moving of people and goods, reduce bureaucratic red tape and reduce to zero corruption risks.

Security Council Secretary recalled that border security and comprehensive management strategy was approved last year. It calls for reforming border infrastructure. According to Baghdasarian, it will further enhance the security of Armenia's borders.

Security Council secretary said for ensuring the security of its borders Armenia is cooperating with Russia that helps ensure the safety of the state border with Turkey and with Iran.

"We have developed a cooperation program with our Russian counterparts and expect to achieve substantial results in the next five years, "- he predicted.

Regarding the border with Georgia in the north he said Armenia has established cooperation with the EU within the framework of integrated border management program in the South Caucasus. -0-
