Penitentiary system in Armenia will undergo substantial reformation, Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan said Monday at a news conference.
YEREVAN, January 17. /ARKA/. Penitentiary system in Armenia will undergo substantial reformation, Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan said Monday at a news conference.
He said faults in the system prompt widespread public displeasure.
In his opinion, Armenia’s penitentiary system needs substantial changes.
Tovmasyan said that the system failed to rehabilitate offenders.
Very often, he said, offenders leave prison after serving their terms with no repentance.
At the same time, he pointed out some improvements in the system. In particular, not a single murder has been committed in prisons for last three years.
Armenia has 12 penitentiaries with 4,700 inmates in them. -0---
