YEREVAN, March 15. / ARKA /. Armenia does not need unprofessional police, President Serzh Sargsyan said Monday at a meeting of the Board of Police.
"We do not need unprofessional police officers. Neither the system, no the society, no one needs them. Those who are unable to improve their professional skills, must think about switching to another job. Everyone has the right to make mistakes but you do not have such a right. Therefore, you must reduce the number of your mistakes and gradually move forward, " Serzh Sargsyan was quoted as saying by local television channels.
Serzh Sargsyan spoke also about the ongoing reforms of the police, the developed guidelines, clearly-cut priorities and goals. President Sargsyan noted also that the focus should be given to the pace of reform, the speed of achieving tangible results.
"I will be supporting caring police officers, facilitate the promotion of dedicated staff. Together we will work more actively to create new opportunities, raising funds, improving technical capacity, "- said the president.
Armenian President assured that the government will give special attention to improving the social conditions of police, on the other side he will be more demanding.
"We will be more strict regarding unacceptable phenomena, bribery and the so-called patronage, misconduct and abuse of power. We often focus on traffic police, the problems in their work. We note the positive trends, but then register regress. It has become commonplace, " the president recalled.
Sargsyan stressed the need to accelerate the introduction of new technical systems in the work of traffic police, in particular, video cameras, fixing the speed and breaches by motorists.
"The law gave police the right to use coercive measures, the exercise of this authority imposes great responsibility. This responsibility is comparable with the responsibility of a surgeon, who can not treat with reservations his or her patients who have different political or civic positions.
