Armenian President: unified enforcement of laws key objectives of judicial reforms

21.04.2011, 18:46
Unified interpretation and enforcement of laws, especially by courts, must become one of the key objectives of judicial reforms, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Wednesday at his meeting with law enforcement officials.
YEREVAN, April 21. /ARKA/. Unified interpretation and enforcement of laws, especially by courts, must become one of the key objectives of judicial reforms, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Wednesday at his meeting with law enforcement officials.

“Examination of judicial practice showed that broadly-worded laws give room for controversial practice,” he said. “I don’t say that this began now. This fault existed forever, but we must combat it, especially after adoption of changes.”

The president said that people, seeing such strange decisions or verdicts, lose their confidence in judicial institutions.

He said that restoration of public confidence in the justice system is one of the aims of these reforms.
Sargsyan said that imperfectness of laws is not the only problem in judicial system.

The head of state also singled out faults in relations between law enforcement agencies.

He said that despite some achievement, law enforcement institutions have plenty to do to put things right.

Armenian Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan, Chairman of the Court of Cassation Arman Mkrtumyan, National Security Chief Gorik Hakobyan, Police Chief Alik Sargsyan and other officials attended Wednesday’s session. -0-
