Yerevan municipality to bring in 250 buses to solve commuter problems

The first batch of 66 China-manufactured buses is due to arrive in Armenia in several days, the press service of Yerevan municipality said.
YEREVAN, December 12. /ARKA/. The first batch of 66 China-manufactured buses is due to arrive in Armenia in several days, the press service of Yerevan municipality said.
Overall the municipality will bring 250 buses from China to take the brunt off thousands of minibuses which create chaos on Yerevan streets.
According to the municipality, the buses will arrive in Yerevan under the previously signed intergovernmental agreement with China.
At a Friday meeting the Council of Elders, Yerevan legislative assembly, approved a draft decision on the establishment of a closed joint stock company ‘Yerevan Bus’ to operate the buses as part of a major project designed to improve transport services for the population of Yerevan.
The authorities plan to gradually cut the number of mini-buses and replace them with large buses. -0-
