Constituency lists to be properly compiled for upcoming presidential elections

YEREVAN, January 21. /ARKA/. Constituency lists will be properly compiled for the upcoming presidential elections, Armenia’s President Robert Kocharian told journalists. The constituency lists were compiled up-to-standard in the parliamentary elections giving hope that high-quality lists will be made available also for the upcoming presidential elections, Kocharian said.

Тhe President reported that the constituency list have been already posted in the polling stations and asked citizens to kindly visit the respective station and verify the accuracy. The authorities will be thankful to the contenders and the political teams if they report any inaccuracy and facts they establish, the President said.
He also expressed the interest of the authorities in properly compiled electorate lists as the authorities are the ones to be considered responsible for “poor” lists.

Тhe presidential elections are to be held in Armenia on February 19.

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia registered nine contenders for the country’s presidential post. The following are to run for presidency in the upcoming elections: the current Prime-Minister and the leader of the Republican Party of Armenia Serge Sargsian, the leader of “Orinats Yerkir” (Country of Law) party Arthur Baghdasarian, the leader of the People’s Party Tigran Karapetian, the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian, the leader of the “National Unity” Artashes Geghamian, the Chairman of the “National Accord” party Aram Harutiunian, the Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament and member of the Bureau of ARF Dashnaktsutiun Vahan Hovhannisian, the leader of the National Democratic Union Vazgen Manukian and ex-advisor to the President of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikian.
The election campaign is to start on January 21 and to last till February 17.

The registration of the contenders is to be held in the period from December 31 2007 to January 20 2008.
2,319,722 voters were included in the electorate list for the parliamentary elections of May 12 2007.–0--
