37% of electorate sure about their political preferences: poll
YEREVAN, February 15. /ARKA/. 37% of Armenia’s electorate knows whom to give preference in the forthcoming presidential election, according to Aharon Adibekian, director of the Sociometer Independent Sociological Center. “This is “the golden electorate” of presidential candidates,” he said.
To gauge public opinion on the presidential election, Sociometer has recently conducted a poll, the results of which show that 7% of the electorate doubts whom to give preference, 11% refrains from making public their political preferences and 12% has not decided whom to vote for.
Statistics show that the election results will depend on those who are not sure of their preferences, according to Adibekian. He believes these peoples are the target audience of the election campaign.
The sociologist pointed out that 3% of the electorate may change their decision under certain circumstances, 5% plans to take part in the forthcoming election, and 25% is not interested in politics.
2,400 people (of the expected 3,140) from 60 urban and rural areas of Armenia were polled on February 8-9. Presidential election in Armenia is scheduled for February 19, 2008. Nine candidates have been nominated by the RA Central Electoral Commission. –0-
