CEC: Serge Sargsian has 52.86% of votes, count of 100% of ballots shows

According to the CEC the processing of 100% of ballots as of 11:52am showed that the Prime-Minister Serge Sargsian gained 863,544 votes or 52.86% of the eligible votes in the presidential elections in Armenia
YEREVAN, February 20. /ARKA/. According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia the processing of 100% of ballots as of 11:52am showed that the Prime-Minister and the Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Serge Sargsian gained 863,544 votes or 52.86% of the eligible votes in the presidential elections in Armenia yesterday, the Chairman of the CEC of Armenia Garegin Azarian told journalists.
According to the first preliminary outcome published by Azarian, Levon Ter-Petrosian gained 351,306 votes (21.5%), the leader of Orinats Yerkir party Arthur Baghdasarian – 272,256 votes (11.666%) and the candidate from ARF Dashnaktsutiun Vahan Hovhannisian – 100,876 votes (6.12%).
20,939 voters (1.28%) voted for the leader of the National Democratic Union Vazgen Manukian, 7,473 (0.46%) for the Chairman of the National Unity Artashes Geghamian, 3,092 (0.19%) for the leader of National Accord, 4,359 (0.27%) for the ex Foreign Minister of Karabakh Arman Melikian and 9,754 (0.6%) – for the leader of the People’s party Tigran Karapetian.
Total of 1,670,656 people participated in the vote. 2,390,000 ballots were issued to the territorial electoral commissions: 720,254 ballots were cancelled (as unused) and 34,849 ballots were considered invalid.
Total of 6,438 inaccuracies were found, Azarian said. He also said that the protocol is signed by six members of CEC and that a special opinion has been submitted by the CEC member Hamlet Abrahamian.
Yesterday countrywide presidential elections were held in Armenia with nine candidates running for presidency. 2,328,320 people eligible to vote could cast their ballots in total of 1,923 polling stations throughout the country.
About 14,000 observers from 39 local and 6 international organizations are watching the course of the elections in the country. –0—
