Kocharyan: Ground for cooperation between authorities and opposition to be formed within two or three days

01.03.2008, 03:57
Ground for cooperation between the authorities and the opposition over the 2008 presidential election will be formed within two or three days, Armenian President Robert Kocharyan said on Friday at his meeting with Yerevan State University’s students.
YEREVAN, February 29. /ARKA – Novosti-Armenia/. Ground for cooperation between the authorities and the opposition over the 2008 presidential election will be formed within two or three days, Armenian President Robert Kocharyan said on Friday at his meeting with Yerevan State University’s students.

“Election is over. The prime minister won it and expressed willingness to cooperate with all political parties. I think ground for further cooperation”, Kocharayn said.

The head of state said that the negotiations with opposition activists who responded to the authorities’ cooperation offer are under way now.
Orinats Yerkir party leader signed an agreement with Armenian Republican Party Chairman Serge Sargsyan on joining the ruling coalition.

The president said that all proposals of international organizations have been taken into account in organizing the election.

He said only one proposal – marking voters’ fingers with ink – has not been accepted.

Kocharyan said that international observers were happy about the course of presidential election.

He said all the candidates and political parties enjoyed the opportunity to express their views in their election campaigns and faced no obstacles.

Robert Kocharyan said perfect elections happen nowhere – important is how the authorities deal with irregularities.

He said the information about irregularities and punishment for committing them is available.

In his words, the authorities reacted properly to the irregularities.
He sees nothing surprising in the presidential candidates’ disagreement with election results.

He said he had run for presidency twice in two rounds and the candidate who came second in the election disputed the results.
He said the same was going on in 1996.

“The loser can’t overcome own ambitions, to congratulate the winner and come to terms with own defeat. This was predictable also because one of the candidates claimed victory yet two weeks before the voting day”, Kocharyan said.-0--
