Kocharyan, Karasin meet in Yerevan

Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met to discuss Armenian-Russian relations on March 18.

YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met to discuss Armenian-Russian relations on March 18.

The sides expressed their content with the increasingly developing multi-sided cooperation between the two countries. Kocharyan and Karasin also discussed the post-election developments and the current situation in Armenia.

From February 20 to March 1, Armenia’s opposition political forces led by ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan were holding rallies in Liberty Square in Yerevan protesting against the results of February 19 presidential elections attributing victory to Prime Minister Serge Sargssyan. Rallies turned into unrest and clashes between the rally participants and the police.

On March 1, RA President Robert Kocharyan issued a decree imposing a twenty-day state of emergency in the capital. --0--
