Accrediting Armenian ambassador to Guatemala to enhance cooperation in many fields

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan expressed confidence that Armenia and Guatemala have great potential for cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry told ARKA News Agency Thursday.

YEREVAN, October 25. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan expressed confidence that Armenia and Guatemala have great potential for cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry told ARKA News Agency Thursday. Accrediting Armenian Ambassador to Guatemala will help develop the cooperation, Nalbandyan said at his meeting with Guatemalan Foreign Minister Harold Caballeros.

The counterparts agreed to form a legal and contractual framework, make consultations, promote cooperation within international organizations, establish business ties and implement cultural exchange programs.

Caballeros briefed Nalbandyan on the integration processes in the Central America, the challenges and the steps taken to meet them.
The foreign ministers discussed also the pressing issues of the international agenda in the context of Guatemala’s membership in the UN Security Council.

Nalbandyan presented the main vectors of Armenian foreign policy and the efforts made to solve the regional problems.

In the framework of his Guatemalan tour Nalbandyan met also with the Chairman of Guatemalan National Congress Judy Riviera Estrada. Guatemalan speaker mentioned that the year 2012, according to the Mayan calendar, symbolizes a new beginning. She expressed hope that it will also be a new beginning of Armenian- Guatemalan relations as Nalbandyan’s visit is the first Armenian high-rank official’s visit to Guatemala since the establishment of diplomatic relations. 

Estrada informed Nalbandyan that some National Congress members want establish an Armenian-Guatemalan parliament friendship group.
The counterparts discussed parliament cooperation issues and expressed confidence that parliament diplomacy can give a renewed impulse to the cooperation. -0-
