Russian flag carrier Aeroflot stopped flying to Damascus Monday due to low demand.
YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. Russian flag carrier Aeroflot stopped flying to Damascus Monday due to low demand. Aeroflot representative said the decision was made due to law demand triggered by the civil conflict in Syria. Thus, Damascus-Moscow flights are full, and Moscow-Damascus- half empty.
Mahmoud Said, Syrian Minister of Transport, said at the RIA Novosti news conference air communication between Russia and Syria will not stop though and will be operated by some other air companies.
After Aeroflot stops flights, Moscow-Damascus-Moscow flights will be operated by Syrian Air.
Since March of 2011 Syria is immersed in clashes between the state authorities and opposition. The opposition demands Assad to step up accusing the authorities of violence against civilians. Damascus officially claims “banks of armed terrorists” supported by foreign radical islamists under the guise of democratic principles are trying to get the power in the country. Over 17,000 people have died in the armed clashes. -0-
