Ambassador Wiktorin: EU assisting Armenia and Azerbaijan to find sustainable solutions to regional security problems

YEREVAN, May 10. /ARKA/. The European Union is assisting Armenia and Azerbaijan to find sustainable solutions to the regional security-related problems, the head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin said today.
She said the EU is assisting Armenia and Azerbaijan to settle also the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
‘We offer assistance and facilitation of these processes. Since last summer, we have been telling the Armenian government that we are ready to do more, but in any case, solutions will be made between the two countries, since the EU is just a mediator in this area," she said.
Wiktorin clarified that mediation does not mean offering solutions, it means creating an environment in which the parties would come to common solutions.
"Our goal is to help reach a sustainable solution to the problems and enable everyone to live in peace and security," she said.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had a meeting in Brussels on April 6 at the initiative of European Council President Charles Michel. Pashinyan and Aliyev agreed to set up a bilateral commission on border delimitation and told their foreign ministers to begin preparations for peace talks.-0-
