YEREVAN, September 25. /ARKA/. Gayane Abrahamyan, an MP from My Step faction, submitted today her resignation, according to the National Assembly’s website. 

Armenian National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan said in a statement that the rules of procedure of the National Assembly states that if an MP withdraws his/her resignation in writing within one week after the submission of the resignation, the parliament speaker issues a statement on this matter. If the deputy MP does not withdraw his/her statement, then a protocol on the termination of his powers is drawn up, which is signed and published by the speaker.” The resignation is considered accepted from the moment of publication of the protocol,” Mirzoyan said.  

Earlier, Arsen Julfalakyan, an MP from My Step faction, , resigned due to disagreements with the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan. Later, another MP from My Step, Armen Pambukhchyan also resigned, and on September 24, by the decree of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, he was appointed as deputy emergencies minister.

Biography of Gayane Abrahamyan

Gayane Abrahamyan was born on July 2, 1979 in Yerevan.

In 2007 she graduated from the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts, and in 2009 International Center for Journalists (Washington).

2016-2018 - chairman of the Foundation of the public organization Educational Center “For Equal Rights”. 

2016-2018 - the founder-head of the club "Article 3".

2017-2018 - the author of the “Public Observer” program cycle of the Factor.am website.

2013-2017 - author of “The Round Table” program cycle at Yerkir Media TV Company.

2002-2013- a correspondent for the Armenianow.com website. 

2006-2018 - Armenian correspondent for the international periodical Eurasianet (New York). 

2006-2018 - collaborated with the international magazine "One Magazine" (USA). 

2015-2017. – collaborated with The Guardian (London). 

2008-2010 - communication expert of the program “Capacity Building of the Office for the Protection of Human Rights” of the International Organization of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). 

2008 -2009. - Trainer and editor of the Media Assistance Program of the International Research and Exchange Council (IREX). 

2001-2002. - Correspondent for Armenian International Magazine (AIM). 

997-2001 - Program Coordinator of the International Association “Little Singers of Armenia”.

Prizewinner at the competition "Excellence in Journalism" (2002, IREX / Promedia), the regional UN competition "HIV / AIDS Prevention" in the category "Best online article" (2006, Tbilisi), in the category "Best political journalist" (2008. , IREX / CMSPA), the first and main prizewinner at the international contest "Catholic Press Award 2010" (2010, USA, New York), a prizewinner at the contest "HA / NOT" (2010 and 2011, British Council, OSCE, UNFPA), journalistic competition "Suitcase" (2012, EU delegation to the RA), the first and main prizewinner at the UN competition for human rights (2014) and a prizewinner at the competition "Freedom of Speech" (2015, Journalists Club "Asparez", Gyumri).

On December 9, 2018, she was elected to the National Assembly through the My Step paty list.
