Another shootout takes place between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops in Gegharkunik section of border

YEREVAN, July 29. /ARKA/. The Armenian Defense Ministry said another shootout occurred today between the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops in the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
It said the shootout occurred at approximately 08:40 after Azerbaijani soldiers opened fire in the direction of the Armenian positions located in the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
It said the enemy’s fire was suppressed after a short exchange of fire. One serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces received a gunshot wound. As of 09:30, the situation was calm, the ministry said in a statement.
In one of the deadliest shootout since the 44-day war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone last autumn, three Armenian soldiers were been killed and several others were wounded on July 28 morning. Later that day both sides accepted a Russian ceasefire proposal to try to calm tensions.
Armenia’s Foreign Ministry accused Azerbaijani side of deliberately escalating the situation as its forces remain illegally on Armenia’s sovereign territory. -0-
