Any encroachment on Iran’s borders can lead to serious military actions – Armenian analyst
YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. Any encroachment on the borders of Iran can lead to serious military actions, which is unprofitable for Turkey and Azerbaijan in the context of the expansion of the Karabakh conflict, Garik Misakyan, an Iran science analyst, said on Wednesday.

The expert considers it unlikely that any country in the region will interfere in the Karabakh conflict, and also sees no need for military intervention by Iran, since the Armenian army is successfully opposing the enemy's actions. He stressed that Iran has already stated that any encroachment on the country's borders will be punished.

"If any country tries to violate the borders of Iran, then [such steps - ed.] will receive a military response. Violation of Iran’s borders by any country can lead to rather serious military actions in the region. And I do not think that it is profitable for Turkey and Azerbaijan in this stage and that they are capable to conduct military operations against Iran, "Misakyan explained.

He said that Iran is militarily strong enough to defend its borders. Even if we assume that Turkey wants to expand the Karabakh conflict and enter the territory of Iran, the latter will not allow such actions.

The analyst also noted that in Iran, Turkey is considered as one of the key political rivals in the region, and this gives grounds for serious concern and calls that Turkey should not interfere with the tension in the Caucasus and escalate it.

Misakyan stressed that Iran benefits from the status quo in Artsakh and the long border with the republic for its own security, since it never posed a threat to both sides. He also noted that pro-Armenian and neutral positions regarding the war in Artsakh prevail in the Iranian media.

Referring to the military exercises of Iran, he noted that to a certain extent they may be caused by drones appearing on the territory of Iran in the northern direction, especially considering that they are of Israeli production.

On October 21, Iran launched the Modafean Aseman Velayat (Defenders of the Velayat Skies) air defense forces military exercise.

"Israel is considered the number one enemy of Iran in the region," the expert stressed.

Also, the exercises, according to Misakyan, may be associated with testing air defense, increasing the military capabilities and level of training of the Iranian army, or be indicative in the context of Iran's planned arms sale.

On October 18, the embargo on supplies to Iran, as well as the export of conventional weapons from that country, expired. On this day, exactly five years have passed since the entry into force of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 adopted in support of it, which established the appropriate time limit.

War in Artsakh

On September 27, at 07:10, Azerbaijani troops launched an offensive along the entire length of the contact line in Artsakh, but were thrown back in several directions. Intense fighting continues in the south, southeast and north of the front line. Turkey joined the aggression. Residential areas are being shelled as well.

Azerbaijan is supported by the Turkish Armed Forces and foreign mercenary terrorists recruited by it. The Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression encounters a decisive rebuff from the Armenian Armed Forces along the entire frontline.

The Azerbaijani side suffered losses in manpower (more than 6,309 people killed and thousands wounded) and equipment, in particular, 195 UAVs, 4 units of TOS – 1A, 4 Smerch and Uragan MLRS, more than 566 tanks and other armored vehicles, 16 helicopters and 22 aircraft. According to the data of the defense ministry of Armenia and Artsakh, more than 725 Armenian servicemen were killed and hundreds wounded on the Armenian side. Also 37 civilians were killed and more than 116 wounded on the Armenian side.

On October 9, following the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, with the mediation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, an agreement was reached on a ceasefire from 12:00 on October 10 for humanitarian purposes for the exchange of prisoners of war and the bodies of the dead. Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, on the basis of the basic principles of the settlement, are starting substantive negotiations with the aim of achieving a peaceful settlement as soon as possible. Two times humanitarian ceasefire agreements were reached, but Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire by opening fire at the opposite side and carrying out rocket attacks on residential areas.

Martial law and general mobilization were declared in Artsakh and Armenia. -0--
