Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan to remain under arrest, court rejects motion for his release

YEREVAN, August 15. /ARКА/. A court in Yerevan has rejected today a motion for the release of the head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan.
The term of his arrest has been extended by 10 days, the National Front reports.
"Everything is fine," the cleric told journalists after the court's decision was announced. He noted that he had expected this. "There is no justice in Armenia," the archbishop said.
On June 27 of this year, the Investigative Committee initiated a public criminal prosecution against Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan under Article 422 of the Criminal Code. He is accused of using mass media to call for the seizure of power and the violent overthrow of the constitutional order.
On June 28, the court had decided to arrest him for two months. The archbishop does not admit the accusation.-0-
