ARF ready to discuss constitutional reforms

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun (ARF) that reaffirmed its support on Monday for constitutional changes that envisage Armenia’s transition to a parliamentary republic, said today after a meeting with president Serzh Sargsyan that it is ready to continue in-depth debates on the proposed changes in the parliament.

YEREVAN, August 26. / ARKA /. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun (ARF) that reaffirmed its support on Monday for constitutional changes that envisage Armenia’s transition to a parliamentary republic, said today after a meeting with president Serzh Sargsyan that it is ready to continue in-depth debates on the proposed changes in the parliament.
Speaking at a Monday news conference a senior member of the party, Aghvan Vardanyan, said their party has long advocated the country’s transformation into a parliamentary republic because it would promote democracy and economic progress of the country. According to him, the draft constitution corresponds to ARF vision by 90-95 percent.
Last Friday president Serzh Sargsyan formally approved the draft constitutional amendments and sent them to the National Assembly for approval.
President Sargsyan will discuss the proposed changes with some other political forces as well. -0-
